Buying a fast executive saloon has in the past been a tough choice M5, S6, XF, E63you get the picture, many letters and numbers. But come summer 2015, one can expect that decision to be quite a lot harder.

Meet the 2016 Cadillac CTS-V, Caddy's 201 mph poke in the eye at Europe's luxury go-fast machines. If a gauntlet were to be thrown, consider this to be it.

Power comes courtesy of GM's 6.2-liter supercharged V8, nicked from the Corvette, and dialed into a rather punchy 640-horsepower and 630 lb-ft of torque. That notches the new CTS-V with around 80 horsepower over its predecessor as well as the current BMW M5. And with a top speed pegged at 201mph, it's safe to say fast is one thing the CTS-V will certainly be.

GM's quick-shifting eight-speed automatic backs up to the hard-hitting V8, channeling all those posh ponies to the rear wheels. To help keep some life in those tires, Cadillac employs a touch of launch control and shifting algorithms. A limited-slip differential finds itself in the rear, shuffling power between 19-inch wheels and fat rubber, and helps catapult the CTS-V from zero to 60mph in a heady 3.7 seconds.

Its bodywork appears to be as performance-minded as its engine too. Cadillac says nearly every exterior panel is unique to the CTS-V, while the carbon fiber hood acts as an air-extractor, and the front and rear diffusers substantially tweak aerodynamic performance. Underneath, the CTS-V tacks on chompy Brembo brakes and a 25 percent stiffer chassis construction.

However, thanks to Caddy's Magnetic Ride Control, which can read the road surface a thousand times a second, your backside doesnt have to feel the brunt of its sporty tuning. On the inside, the Cadillac dons a number of luxury accoutrements for the person who doesnt want to pop to work in a 640hp racecar. Swathes of leather and suede meld together to greet a techy infotainment system, which features a curb-view camera, Siri Eyes Free iPhone connectivity, Bose surround sound audio, and 4G LTE Wi-Fi.

Interested You can catch a glimpse of this M5-fighter when it debuts in Detroit next month.
